steps to self employmentDo you know a person with a disability who has a hobby or idea that could become a business, or who dream about owning a business (self-employment)? Do you know anyone who started a business but needs support for the business to be profitable and grow? If so, these Business Development Classes may be helpful to assist the person to learn information, resources and guidance for building their business!

an image of signs marking different paths to self-employmentThe RI Developmental Disabilities Council (RIDDC) and the RI Small Business Administration (SBA), Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC), have collaborated to develop a series of FREE Business Development Classes specifically for people with disabilities and others. We are committed to working with individuals who want self-employment as a source of personal and financial independence.

The classes will provide people with practical day-to-day advice and resources they can understand and use in their business. The SBA knows how to assist people to write good business plans, conduct research on business ideas, and set achievable targets/goals in whatever industry they choose to launch.

The series will include six business classes. One class scheduled monthly beginning in April 2018:

  1. Business 101 Basics…Is Entrepreneurship (Self-Employment) Right for You?
  2. Steps to Start a Small Business
  3. Developing an Effective “Elevator Speech” to Explain Your Business Product/Service and Goals
  4. Writing a Good Business Plan
  5. Marketing Your Business Idea
  6. Understanding Finances, Bookkeeping, Taxes, and Resources for Business Growth Opportunities

We are excited about the opportunity these classes will provide to develop an individual’s entrepreneurial spirit, build their business idea and expand their network over the next few months!
