The objective of this event is to raise awareness about the benefits of hiring individuals with disabilities and the belief that employment and careers should be the expected and preferred outcomes of all publicly funded services for individuals with disabilities. This event features a special focus on Self-Employment and highlights entrepreneurs from Cheetah Greetings, Rock Solid Creations, We Be Jammin, and Jason’s Creations.
Date/Time: Monday, February 24th from 3:00-4:00pm
Location: 601 Great Road, North Smithfield, RI 02896
Sponsored by: The Rhode Island Association of People Supporting Employment (RIAPSE) in partnership with the Rhode Island Developmental Disabilities Council
Legislators from the local area have committed to attend, and will provide their comments as to their experience.
This event will also bring attention to the success of Red, White and Brew, a coffee shop owned and operated by a person with disabilities and their family. Attendees are invited to stay afterwards for RIAPSE’s APSE After Hours event, a casual place to share thoughts around disability employment.
The goal of Take Your Legislator to Work event is to ask employees with disabilities to invite their legislator(s) to visit their workplace to show first-hand the power of community-integrated employment for people with disabilities. The Take Your Legislator to Work event provides a powerful opportunity to showcase the skills and talents of people with disabilities in the workplace. We believe by bringing legislators into workplaces and demonstrating first-hand the impact employees with disabilities have on the workplace will do more to educate them on the power of integrated employment than simply reading fact sheets.
